Over the Counter Teeth Whitening Products Give You Something To Smile About

Teeth whitening is fast becoming a staple of good health, hygiene and appearance. And while cosmetic dental treatment is ideal yet expensive, you can start doing your own teeth whitening by using a good over the counter teeth whitening product. It's the most common and easiest way to make your teeth look great and your smile, the brightest it can be.

Most over the counter teeth whitening products come in two types: bleaching and abrasive. Bleaching is the changing of the natural tooth color, to a whiter color. This is done through the actions of the carbamide peroxide solution which is the main ingredient for most over the counter teeth whitening with bleaching solutions.

The peroxide solution helps remove deep and surface stains while bleaching the tooth enamel. Because your tooth enamel is porous material, coffee, wine, soda, food and nicotine stains can easily penetrate this hard layer with no difficulty. Using over the counter teeth whitening products with peroxide solutions is the most recommended.

This type of teeth whitening is easily available over the counter at your local pharmacy. It may come in toothpaste or gel form which you may brush directly on your teeth, or place in a mouth guard for some time (depending on the product directions).

Usually the peroxide solutions in these over the counter teeth whitening products only range from ten to twenty percent to avoid tissue damage or accidental poisoning (over the counter teeth whitening products used by dentists in their treatments have at least thirty percent peroxide solution). But because the peroxide concentration is so low, it may take ten days to several weeks before you can see a dramatic improvement in your teeth.

The second type of teeth whitening is by using over the counter teeth whitening products that contain a mild abrasive solution. This mild abrasive solution grinds away at surface stains, removing them from your tooth enamel. This type comes in toothpaste form.

In fact, the most common type of the over the counter mild abrasive whitening is toothpaste. Most toothpastes have small particles of either (or a mix of) silica, aluminum oxide, calcium carbonate, or calcium phosphate that help clean off the stains on your teeth. This is the simplest way to whiten your teeth, and the safest kind to use, as well. There is a specific type of paste you should use called a whitening toothpaste.

Over the counter teeth whitening toothpaste not only has the mild abrasive solution to clean away stains while you brush, it also contains a mild whitening chemical solution that acts (together with abrasive solution) both as a cleaning and whitening agent. Over the counter teeth whitening toothpaste products, however, don't contain peroxide bleaching solutions.

But don't expect instant results; it may take you anywhere from ten days to several weeks before you can see the change in your teeth's color to a more acceptable white. If you can't wait that long, visit your family dentist and ask for advice for undergoing dental whitening treatments. But beware: Price wise, these treatments may be prohibitively more expensive than do-it-yourself over the counter teeth whitening products.

There are a lot of over the counter teeth whitening products to choose from. Ask your pharmacist to help you pick out one. Buying an over the counter teeth whitening product is the first step to your new smile.

Teeth Whitening Products - A True Love Story

There were so many teeth whitening products found in the dental aisle at the local grocery store, that Jonathan could not decide which one was best for him. All he wanted was to finally have white teeth, but after looking around he could not decide exactly how much should a bright smile cost. There was a diverse amount of teeth whitening products on both sides of him, and the shelves were absolutely packed with gels, toothpastes and creams that all touted themselves as the absolute best choice in tooth whiteners.

With all his worries about how much should a bright smile cost, Jonathan found himself picking up every tooth whitener around him and reading the product information to himself but out loud. "This tooth whitening gel eliminates stains and will guarantee the white teeth you have always dreamed of," he told one teeth whitening product, as if the box of tooth whitener would somehow speak back. "And this product promises to guarantee teeth whitening also - or your money back." Jonathan began to worry more; all he wanted was to whiten his smile before tomorrow's big date with Sheila - they had met in this very grocery store last week. Just as Jon felt he might drown in a sea of teeth whitening products, he reached out for one more white teeth remedy, and he placed his hand on someone else's hand who was also reaching for the same product that promised a low bright smile cost.

He looked up from his hand to those same piercing green eyes he'd met last week. "What are you doing here Sheila?" He asked her. She told him she'd come to the tooth whitener aisle for the same reason he had; she wanted to have beautiful white teeth for when she met him tomorrow. So she came back to the store to get some teeth whitening products, but had seen Jon looking through all the products for the very same reason. "Well, I don't know how much might a bright smile cost, but I might do know one thing." Jon told her with his own bright smile. "I know that I'm glad we are both nervous about the same silly thing, and that makes me think that tomorrow will be the start of something absolutely wonderful." And it was.
